10th July, 2010You may be confused between the difference of psychiatrists and psychologists. You should be aware that both of them are Antioch doctors in opposite fields. You should know that a psychiatrist has a Doctor of Medicine degree while a psychologist is a holder of a Doctor of Philosophy or Doctor of Education degree.
In the medical and clinical field, it is the psychiatrist who deals with patients who have mental, behavioral as well as emotional disturbances or disorders. They also prescribe medications to treat this type of patients. Through regular assessment, they can determine if the patient needs to undergo psychotherapy or behavioral therapy. They talk to the relatives or other people with a connection to the patient in order to figure out the cause of the disturbances in the behavior or mental status of the person.
On the other hand, psychologists are those who study the behavior and way of thinking of humans. They are more on the research side compared to psychiatrists. They deal with patterns on how people relate with his environment. They are more concerned on the individual behavior rather than mental disorders. Both of them are considered Antioch doctors of the mind but they deal with it in two different methods.
